The Chugg Team

Musical Director

Back in the eighties Mike was a pop star and played keyboards in ‘King’, ‘The Truth’, ‘Dexy’s Midnight Runners’ and others. He had many hits and toured all over the world.

Mike has run recording studios, lectured at further and higher education level and was head of popular music for Warwickshire’s County music service. Mike completed his MA in songwriting in 2009, producing an album of his own songs called ‘Future Wonderful’.

He has recorded and performed songs with children of all ages from nurseries to universities. Having retired early he is now writing and recording songs in his own studio for Chugg Productions Ltd.

An award winning TV producer Anita Ramdharry started her broadcasting career in 1998 working at Fox in Omaha in the U.S. as a reporter. In 2001 while doing her MA in the states she co-produced her first Children's programme called "Eat The Sky" for an NBC affiliate in the midwest.

She then joined ABC news as a reporter in late 2001. In 2003 she returned to the UK to join BBC News as a reporter and presenter.

As well as news and features Anita also made several mini series for the BBC like “Escalator short films East” and “In the footsteps of the Dodo” both aired on BBC1.  After a decade in news and features Anita decided to leave the BBC to focus on Children's programme making with Chugg Productions Ltd.

Writer and Illustrator

A retired  Primary teacher of over twenty years Jan moved onto a narrow boat with her husband Mike and started writing children’s books. Her series of six books about ‘Chico Chugg’, a loveable Jack Russell who lives on a narrowboat, are based on her own dog. They are for 7 to 11 year olds. Jan’s first book ‘The Misadventures of Chico Chugg’ was a finalist in the ‘People’s Book Prize’  2012.

Chico is now widely known and loved by over 20 000 children after Jan toured Primary schools across the country promoting writing through literacy assemblies. Chico also has his own website, facebook and twitter  pages where children can follow his daily adventures and antics. www.chicochugg.com

A chance meeting with Anita at a craft fair, began the start of a new venture. Jan had dreamt that one day Chico Chugg could make it to children’s TV and Anita recognised the exciting possibilities of turning Mike’s songs and Jan’s writing into short live action films for 3 to 7 year olds. Jan is now busy writing a series of Chico Chugg books to go with the filmed series for younger children. She is also planning and creating new ideas for future children’s, as well as adult, TV.
